<race>, something terrible has transpired within the Ruby Sanctum beneath the Temple.

The entry to the Sanctum is in ruins, and its guardians violently slain. We sent scouts to investigate, but they have not returned. I cannot help but fear the worst.

Enter the Ruby Sanctum and discover what has befallen the home of my flight. Once we have more information, we can plan our next steps accordingly.

Tips

There is a quest from Rhonin in Dalaran named Trouble At Wyrmrest. It sends you to Krasus at Wyrmrest Temple. Krasus has the quest Assault on the Sanctum. You can get Assault on the Sanctum without having completed Trouble at Wyrmrest. So, unless you really want 1g 35s and/or a quest for The Seeker (maybe, haven’t confirmed it), you can go straight to Krasus.

Assault on the Sanctum must be turned into Sanctum Guardian Xerestrasza who is inside the raid instance. I tried mage-stealthing around the tree by Baltharus and couldn’t find her anywhere. Since the follow up quest is to kill Halion and does not include killing the watchers, I’m going to guess you have to kill Baltharus so she can come out of the tree and you can turn this in.

Following the assassination of Medivh, the staff was brought to Dalaran where it was held by successive members of the Kirin Tor, who all found their deaths soon (except for highborne sorcerer Tarsis Kir-Moldir, it appears). After all these deaths, it was decided that the staff was to be put “behind impenetrable barriers of magic” and a “watcher” was appointed: Angela Dosantos. The shattering of the staff came about following the destruction of Dalaran by Archimonde, probably due to the failsafe system of the magical barrier. Atiesh was shattered into forty-two pieces which were scattered across all of Azeroth[3]. Brann Bronzebeard held the Base of Atiesh, which he somehow lost to C’Thun. The Scourge captured the forty-one other pieces, twenty of which were initially held by Tarsis. Forty pieces of Atiesh were each entrusted to a different lieutenant of Kel’Thuzad within Naxxramas, while the fallen mage himself held the staff’s head.

When Naxxramas appeared over the Eastern Plaguelands, the Argent Dawn attempted to prevent this powerful focus of power from falling into the hands of the necromancer-lich, Kel’Thuzad, and were apparently successful in this regard.

Later, Meryl Winterstorm sent Garona Halforcen on a mission to retrieve the base of the shattered staff from within the remains of C’Thun. Garona succeeded and gave the base to Med’an, who restored the whole staff simply by holding it while being imbued with the powers of the New Council of Tirisfal.

Description

This final task will be the most difficult of all, <name>. You have faced and defeated both an Old God and the Lich King’s General, but now you must face the hand of Sargeras.

Take the staff to Stratholme. It is there that you will find a piece of consecrated earth: ground where the greatest knights of Lordaeron were murdered. Place the befouled staff upon the holy ground and prepare for an entity of immense power to break from within… Defeat the demonic being that controls the staff and return to me.

Val’anyr is targeted to healing classes, and can be wielded by druids, paladins, priests, and shamans; in contrast with Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian which was not targeted towards healers or dps specifically. However, the high damage on this weapon still makes it viable for non-healing specs. For example, the shadow priest community generally agrees this weapon is best in slot for damage as well. This may be due to the release of dual spec during the same patch as the release of Ulduar.

Created by the Titans  themselves, Val’anyr was given to the first Earthen king, Urel Stoneheart. With it, he was to create and give life to the rest of his brethren.

Val’anyr was shattered during the first war between the Earthen and the Iron Dwarves. The Weapon’s remnants were believed lost in the conflict.

Description

The Archivum Console has hinted at a possible way to rebind the fragments of Val’anyr: you must get the fragments inside the physical form of the being known as Yogg-Saron.

It sounds like a long shot, but for an artifact of such power you think the risk might just be worth it.

Sindragosa is briefly seen in the Pit of Saron, the second 5-man Icecrown instance, after the defeat of Scourgelord Tyrannus. While the leader of the army of liberated slaves (Martin Victus for Alliance, Gorkun Ironskull for Horde) commends the players for their bravery and their efforts to free them, Sindragosa flies up from the pit below and unleashes her fury, killing the leader and his army. The players are pulled back to the entrance tunnel by Jaina Proudmoore or Sylvanas Windrunner, saving them from a grisly death.

Sindragosa appears as a boss encounter in the Frostwing Halls inside Icecrown Citadel. She was one of the first two bosses to be announced, the other of course being the Lich King himself.

Description
The Lich King’s throne once served as his prison. Kil’jaeden himself crafted the vessel of icy crystals from the twisting nether, its sole purpose to hold Ner’zhul’s vengeful spirit.

When Arthas struck the crystal with Frostmourne, he released Ner’zhul’s soul, allowing it to merge with his own. Splinters from that impact are now scattered throughout the citadel.

I shall require those shards, held only by the Lich King’s most powerful servants, to seal the power contained in your blade.

Serving as the first wing in this expansive dungeon, the Forge of Souls will quickly put players to the test of carving through the Scourge stronghold into deeper, more treacherous locations. Jaina will command Alliance forces, and Sylvanas will direct Horde forces. The goal is to ruin the twisted engines known as soul grinders found in this portion of the citadel, and then players can advance — that is, if the Horde and Alliance forces can overcome the foes who confront them.

Bosses

Bronjahm, the Godfather of Souls
An instrument of reckoning, Bronjahm watches over the engines in the Forge of Souls. He must be killed if the soul grinders are to be destroyed.

The Devourer of Souls
As the chief operator of the engines found in this wing, the Devourer stands guard over the souls stolen by the Lich King.

The entry chamber to the Frozen Halls instances has been designated a sanctuary and can be found on the northwest side of the citadel on the upper parapet. A meeting stone can be found inside the halls near the three instance lines.

Every loot item which drops in both Normal and Heroic modes for those instances is of epic quality. The loot for Normal mode equals or surpasses 10-man Ulduar drops in some slots. The loot for Heroic mode equals or surpasses 10-man Onyxia’s Lair and 10-man Trial of the Crusader normal mode drops in some slots. However, its difficulty should not be underestimated though. And just like Trial of the Champion, it is by no means a “get epics quick” scheme for under-geared players!

Icecrown Citadel: The Frozen Halls will feature 3 wings and 7 bosses where the players accompany Jaina Proudmoore (for Alliance players) or Sylvanas Windrunner (for Horde players). Only the Forge of Souls is available at the start; players must complete each wing in sequence to unlock access to the others.

The Forge of Souls
The first wing in the instance will have the players destroy Soul Grinders under watch of Bronjahm and the Devourer of Souls, wicked machines that serve some dark purpose of the Lich King. When this is complete the players can advance into the next wing.

Pit of Saron
The second wing of the instance involves entering a saronite mining pit and freeing captured champions of the Alliance and the Horde, put to slave labor by the Scourge under watch of Forgemaster Garfrost, Krick and Ick, and Scourgelord Tyrannus.

Halls of Reflection
The last wing of the instance will have players and their guides attacking the private chambers of the Lich King along with his two Scourge commanders, Falric and Marwyn.
