Hodir

Hodir was a titanic watcher and once resided in the Temple of Winter, lending his guidance to the frost giants in the Storm Peaks. The Sons of Hodir, a faction in the region, refer to Hodir as a father figure or creator. He disappeared after Loken’s betrayal of the other titanic Watchers. It is said that the temple guardians are verified to be deceased. A sulfurous odor suggests that death resulted from a fire-base entity and that the previously established cold weather patterns at the temple have ceased.

It was announced on Feb 17, 2009 that Hodir would be a raid encounter in the upcoming Ulduar raid dungeon. After being defeated, Hodir is redeemed and teleports away to possibly help the players against Yogg-Saron later.

Feral Druid Bear Tank Guide

Can a Bear be a main tank do they make good tanks?
Absolutely!! When WotLK was first released the developers made it a core goal to bring all tanks in line with each other and for the most part do away with gimmicks that didn’t allow certain tanks to perform. Ghostcrawler, beta forum CM extraordinaire, has posted a big (well, big for a blue post) overview of some of the goals and decisions for tanking in Wrath. It goes something like this:

  • All four tanking classes should be viable.
  • Tanking should be “a little more fun.”
  • Most characters in tanking classes (Warriors, Druids, Paladins, Death Knights) should be able to tank a normal five-man just fine, with heal specs (for Druids and Paladins) being the exception.
  • Heroics and raids will require investment in tanking talents, but all tanking classes should be able to tank them if appropriately specced. Ghostcrawler notes that this is a change of strategy for Blizz; previously, for instance, feral druids were positioned by the devs as being better off-tanks than main tanks. Now, he says, “If nearly all guilds want the same class as their MT, we’ve failed.”

Auriaya

Ulduar’s archivist patrols the Observation Ring accompanied by ferocious cats. Years of solitude weighted heavily on Auriaya, and the Old God’s growing power seems to have destroyed the last shreds of her sanity.

Kologarn

Loken requisitioned Ignis the Furnace Master to create this towering giant as a guard for the Shattered Walkway. His oversized proportions, including a pair of massive arms, allow Kologarn to easily crush any intruders who attempt to reach the inner sanctum.

Ignis the Furnace Master is an optional boss encounter in Ulduar and can be found in the Colossal Forge. On orders from prime designate Loken, Ignis created both Kologarn and Razorscale.

Gruul the Dragonkiller is the gronn overlord of the ogres of Outland, ruling with an iron fist. He earned his “nom de guerre” (and the emnity of Sabellian) after slaughtering many members of the black dragonflight who had come to Outland in order to aid the Horde of Draenor.

Gruul is the final boss of Gruul’s Lair in the Blade’s Edge Mountains. He drops Tier 4 Leggings tokens. He is the father of seven Gronn: Goc, Gorgrom the Dragon-Eater, Grulloc, Maggoc, Slaag, Skulloc Soulgrinder, and Durn the Hungerer. He has about 3,375,000 hit points (Patch 2.4.3), although with Patch 3.0.2 this has been reduced by 30%.

This boss is also part of (what used to be) the Serpentshrine Cavern attunement quest The Cudgel of Kar’desh. This quest requires two signets. One of which, the Earthen Signet, drops directly from Gruul. The other, the Blazing Signet, drops from Nightbane in Karazhan. Serpentshrine Cavern no longer requires attunement as of June 20, 2007.

Illidan Stormrage, known as the Betrayer, is the current Lord of Outland, ruling from the Black Temple. He was born as a night elf, and as stated by Maiev Shadowsong, is now “neither demon nor night elf, but something more”. He is the twin brother of Malfurion Stormrage, and was (perhaps still is) in love with Tyrande Whisperwind. Once an unusually gifted Sorcerer, his exact powers today are difficult to classify.

His pursuit of power and arcane mastery led him to commit a number of horrific acts against his own people and the races of Azeroth, including defecting to Sargeras during the War of the Ancients and creating the second Well of Eternity. For his actions, he was imprisoned for ten thousand years, until his release during the Third War. He came to be called the Betrayer for his acts against the night elf people and carried the title of Lord of Outland. Seeking to bring down her erstwhile prisoner, Maiev allied with Akama to invade the Black Temple, where she cornered Illidan in his inner sanctum and struck him down, bringing an end to one of the most tragic stories in Azeroth’s history.

He has come to be called the Betrayer for his acts against the night elf people and now also carries the title of Lord of Outland.

Mother Shahraz

Mother Shahraz is a shivarra boss located in Black Temple in Shadowmoon Valley. Besides requiring high amounts of Shadow Resistance, the fight is rather basic tank and spank. All previous bosses (Shade of Akama, Teron Gorefiend, Reliquary of Souls, and Gurtogg Bloodboil) need to be killed before the door to Mother Shahraz opens. She must be killed before the raid can gain access to the Illidari Council.

The Shivarra, or Shivan, are a 6-armed female mystical demon species living in Outland, averaging at roughly twenty to thirty feet tall. Currently, not much is known about these dangerous demons except the small excerpt of information stored on the Exodar Holographic Emitter in the Exodar.

Gurtogg Bloodboil

Gurtogg Bloodboil is a (presumedly) fel-sworn orc boss in Black Temple. The fight is a battle for survival combined with a tough healer gear check. Depending on the relative gear levels between healers and damage dealers, Bloodboil is usually killed fifth or sixth, and is a prerequisite for gaining access to Mother Shahraz.

The fel-sworn are those who have begun to transform due to their exposure to the energies of the Burning Legion. Their bodies have warped and twisted to take on a new shape as their souls become more and more evil. While they might start out resembling normal members of their race, their demonic features develop until they are terrifying beings, half humanoid and half demon.
